Cassian

There are artists who shine brightest behind the scenes. Others steal the show when positioned front and center. And then there’s Cassian Stewart-Kasimba, whose creative narrative encapsulates the best elements of both journeys. From his early days spent playing keys and guitar in the backroom of the legendary Sydney venue, Candys Apartment, to commanding the international stage with his dynamic club and live sets, Cassian has emerged a singular force in the melodic house and techno realms.

An esteemed mixer, producer and DJ, Cassian stands out as a triple threat with an extensive list of studio credits to support the notion. Dance music lovers the world over are already well acquainted with his stylistic finesse thanks to his contributions to works by celebrated acts like Banks, Dom Dolla, Lastlings, Crooked Colours, Hayden James, Broods, Anyma and most notably RÜFÜS DU SOL.

In 2022, Cassian scored his first Grammy Award in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording category for mixing RÜFÜS DU SOL’s single, ‘Alive’ from their third studio album, ‘Surrender’. Their prolific relationship began when the band were in the final stages of finishing their debut album ‘Atlas’, as Cassian stepped in to mix the single ‘Desert Night.’ From there, Cassian’s unique soundprint went on to shape their sophomore album ‘Bloom’ as well as 2018’s ‘Solace’, which earned him a Grammy nomination for mixing the progressive heater, ‘Underwater’. Over the years, he served as direct support on the trio’s accompanying tours, unleashed exceptional remixes of their drilling cuts, and even appeared at the band’s first-ever destination event, Sundream Tulum, which brought a lineup of deep-house all stars to Mexico’s Yucatan coast and which featured a now infamous Sunday morning party that saw Cassian go b2b with the likes of Adam Port and RÜFÜS DU SOL in the same villa where Solomun unleashed his iconic Boiler Room set in 2015.

Cassian’s debut LP, ‘LAPS’, arrived via the aforementioned collective’s Rose Ave imprint in 2020. The critically acclaimed concept album is home to the hit singles ‘Lafayette’, ‘Magical (feat. ZOLLY)’, and ‘Same Things (feat. Gabrielle Current), and follows the lifecycle of a relationship through a patchwork of brilliant synths, bold drumlines and emotional melodies. ‘LAPS’ and the dancefloor ready edits it later spawned further solidified Cassian’s reputation as a stand-out solo performer. Now, its selections accent his high-profile performances at revered venues like Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Brooklyn Mirage and The Concourse Project as well as major festivals like Electric Forest and Coachella, where he wowed crowds at the much-buzzed-about DoLab Stage.

Cassian’s collaborative 2021 EP with Odd One Out label boss, Yotto, showed off some deeper sensibilities, and his subsequent ‘Reactivate’ EP injected another dose of riotous clubland energy into his post-lockdown output. Next came his nostalgic single with Hayden James ‘On Your Own (feat. Elderbrook)’, which topped Shazam charts across the world and went on to be named one of BBC Radio 1’s “Hottest Records.” When the longtime friends hit the road together in Spring of 2022, the same dreamy composition served as a musical cornerstone during sold-out stops along their live tour.

Each unique in their own right, these recent creations serve as testaments to Cassian’s soundscape construction and versatility – a quality that’s remained paramount in his slow and steady rise to the top, and which has earned the DJ Mag North America cover star more than a Million captivated monthly listeners across various platforms.

In his almost 15 years in the electronic realm, the Australian powerhouse has experienced a powerful transformation – shifting from an invaluable beatmaking asset into a highly sought after headlining act. To date, Cassian’s sonic gems have garnered more than 75 million streams worldwide and continue to be supported by both bands and renowned producers across six continents with names like Tale of Us, Stephan Jolk, Eelke Kliejn, Lane 8, Hayden James, Vintage Culture, Nora En Pure, Fideles, Yotto, and Meduza topping out the diverse list of artists who champion his vibrant discography.

With releases still to come on Tale of Us’s Afterlife imprint, and a slew of dates in locations spanning from Brazil to Ibiza, Cassian is set to assume the spotlight on a global scale. For this savvy innovator, whose work both in the studio and on-stage remains unparalleled, worldwide notoriety isn’t only well-deserved, it’s wholly inevitable.
